My Creative Space: Tote Bag and Matching Purse

I have finally finished Riley's tote bag ....

I had a few issues constructing it and it also turned out smaller than I was planning but it will still be useful and everything is interfaced so its nice and sturdy.

It was also my first time putting in an internal zip pocket and overall I'm pleased with how it turned out. I just need to practice a bit more.

On to the purse ....
I found this tutorial over at Noodlehead which was way cooler than what I had originally planned. The purse was easy to make and so cute. Next time I think I would make it a bit bigger and construct the tab differently (as you can see in my picture its a bit wonky).

More Snow!

(Carrying on from this post which was just a teeny, tiny taste of what was to come).

The snow started in earnest last night and we woke to this ....

Riley loved it! It was awesome seeing the excitement on his face ....

I took far too many photos so I won't bore you with them all (even though I want to) but here are just a couple of my faves ....

I hope everyone is keeping warm and safe with the cold weather!

Scrapping: The Week Thats Been

The first week of the school holidays has just flown by! Riley has another cold .... I was hoping to have him all better for our holiday in August. Its still a week and a half away so hopefully it all clears up by then.

And .... this week has started off with snow and lots of it! More on that in a separate post.

Here are a couple of layouts from last week:

Snow!

In the two and a half years that we've been in Christchurch we have never experienced snow .... until now.

My Creative Space: Cutie Pouch

I had some super cute fabric scraps that I wanted to use up and they were the perfect size for this tutorial over at noodlehead. I know, cute right? And so, so easy too.

I am also currently working on a tote bag for Riley complete with front pocket, inside zip pocket and matching pouch. I should have it finished soon so keep an eye out for it next week!

Kid's Craft

I don't do much art and craft stuff at home with Riley. I can't stand the mess it makes so I like to leave those kinds of things for him to do at Kindy.

Today I was feeling particularly inspired though and decided to do a simple threading exercise with him, making necklaces using things I had around the house. Initially he found it a bit fiddly but he really enjoyed it and wore his necklace all day, he was so proud of it.

I'm not sure how it went from threading to cutting with scissors but Riley figured out that if you snip straws in a certain way the bits fly across the room. I eventually ended up hiding the rest of the straws otherwise he was going to cut them all up! Naturally we then progressed onto paper. I found some pretty paper in my scrapbooking stash that I didn't mind Riley cutting up and I cut out some simple shapes so that he could do some glueing.

We did make a rather big mess but nothing that my vacuum cleaner couldn't handle.

Scrapping: The Week Thats Been

Its the first day of the school holidays and because of our impending holiday it will be a total of 5 weeks before Riley goes back to Kindy! I just hope I still have my sanity by the end of it all. Its amazing how quickly I've come to rely on having my Riley free time. Time to think, read, sew, scrapbook and generally enjoy the peace and quiet (my boy does not stop talking ALL day).

Anyway here are a few of my layouts that I did last week:

My Creative Space: Car Play Mat

I picked up a gorgeous fabric panel from Sew Pretty the other week and I thought it would be perfect to turn into a car mat for Riley (hes mad about cars).

It was my first time sewing with such large pieces of fabric and I'm not sure that I'd do it again given the chance. I backed my panel with a plain navy cotton as its going to spend a lot of time on the floor and I wanted a colour that wouldn't show up too much dirt.

It has a couple of imperfections but Riley loves it and .... its cooler than PlayStation! Well he didn't say that in so many words, but it was the first thing that he wanted to play with when we got home from Kindy the other day, which says A LOT.

Cute Tie and New Outfit for the Boy

We're counting down the weeks now until our holiday and Phil's brothers wedding. I'm slowly working through my 'to do' list and it is LONG.

Last weekend we sorted out what Riley is going to wear and I made him a little tie using this tutorial here.

I don't know whether he'll actually wear it or not (I'm hoping to get it on him long enough for me to take some photos) but I thought it was just too cute so I had to make it. It was a bit tricky tying the knot but I think I've got it figured out.

Scrapping: The Week Thats Been

We're all chugging along as usual. Riley has been going to Kindy so the weeks are going really fast! He still has a lingering snotty nose (just what you all wanted to know) but hes able to deal with it himself now which helps especially when hes at Kindy.

On the scrapbooking front, I've been getting stuck into making some layouts using DSP Designer Nicole Young's products.

My Creative Space: Reusable Snack Bag

I've seen heaps of reusable snack bags floating around the internet. The idea is using them to replace your standard snap lock bags but I wasn't keen on that unless the bag had some sort of plastic liner so its easy to clean (I just used cotton).

I am one of those people who every time we go out I throw a couple of snacks for Riley into my handbag. If he doesn't eat them they get forgotten about and the next time we go out I throw in some more. You get the picture, after a while I have heaps of food floating around in the bottom of my bag. So for me a snack bag was the perfect idea to keep all his snacks together and it makes them easier to find (my bag can be a bottomless pit sometimes). Before I go out I can check it and add to it if I need to. It was really quick to sew (using this tutorial here) and has a velcro closure so its easy for Riley to help himself.

If I was to make another one, the only thing I would do differently would be to box the corners and make it a bit bigger.
