Exciting Times Ahead!

Last week we received a letter from the school that Riley will be going to about school visits .... that's right, in just a few short months my little boy will be turning 5 and we'll be starting a whole new adventure.

When I first started this blog he was two and a half ....

Look how big he is now!

Love you baby boy xx

My Creative Space: Shorts on the Line

There has been a lot of short making going on in blog land this month and even though it's winter here I thought I'd get in on the action and make a start on Riley's summer wardrobe. I don't usually make clothes, mainly because I've never had much success at it, but by the time Summer comes around Riley will have started school and he's going to need heaps of clothes.

I was at Spotlight last weekend so I took the opportunity to have a good dig through the fabrics on their clearance table (there's no point in me making clothes if it would be cheaper and easier to just buy them). I came away with 3 meters of fabric for $16. For this pair of shorts I added pockets but if I left them out then I'd be able to get 2 pairs of shorts out of a meter. Not bad really ....

It wasn't until after I'd made them that I realized that the colour isn't very practical. When I bought the fabric all I was thinking about was how cool it would look as a pair of shorts. The print is skull and cross bones, perfect for wearing to a pirate party this weekend ....

I'm also posting these shorts in the Shorts on the Line Flickr group.

Embroidery Hoop Love

I love embroidery hoops! They make such awesome frames for stitch work or even just displaying pretty pieces of fabric plus they are quick and easy.

This one is currently hanging in Riley's room. He loves vehicles so this is perfect for him but the best thing about it is that I can easily change it for something else to match what he's into.

You can find some of my other hoop art here, here and here.
I also have a pin board devoted to embroidery hoop art, you can find it here.

Recipe: Banana Ice Cream (calling all banana lovers)

If you love bananas then this recipe is for you! Better yet you only need a couple of ingredients.

INGREDIENTS
Frozen banana
Vanilla essence

METHOD
Put your frozen banana in a food processor.

Pulse until it all breaks up.

Add as much vanilla as you'd like and continue to process until it's smooth and creamy ( if it gets stuck scrape down the sides and keep going).

I'm not a fan of banana's but I make this for both Riley and Phil and it is the easiest thing ever. It's particularly great for Riley because he thinks he's eating ice cream when all it is is frozen banana! I make sure to keep a few bags of frozen bananas in the freezer and it takes less than a minute to throw together.

My Creative Space: Rag Quilt

There is a reason that I don't quilt .... lack of patience, lack of accuracy when cutting/measuring - just to name a few.

The great thing about this type of quilt is that it hides any imperfections well and it's the perfect size for a child's lap quilt.

It sewed up relatively quickly and it was a good opportunity to have a big stash clear out and use up some cute fabric scraps. There is no order to it. It's simply bright, colourful and fun.

Handmade Heart Swap Part 2: Sent

(To see what I received check out this post here)
Here is what I sent my partner for the Handmade Heart Swap ....

Zip pouch. I especially love the little heart charm on the zipper.

Crochet coaster. I'm definitely going to make myself a set, I just need to decide on what colour I want.

Lavender heart.

Small embroidery hoop art. I think this turned out so cute!

Bookmark.

I also included a bag of strawberry/chocolate hearts and for something a little different I wrapped everything in a fat quarter.
