Slouchy Hat

I love being able to crochet. I find it so much easier to make things for myself, my latest being a cute slouchy hat. I used this pattern here and it turned out great - really quick and easy to make.

I'm not really a hat person but I don't think it looks too bad (the photos don't do it justice) ....

Riley loves it and now he's requested a hat of his own, so that will be my next project.

My Creative Space

There's not been a lot of sewing going on around here lately. In fact there's not been a lot of anything. It's not that I can't think of anything to make (my 'to do' list is long), it's just that I can't be bothered.

So today I'm going to share a cute little quilt block that I made a couple of weeks ago ....

It's been hanging out in my sewing room waiting for me to do something with it. I'm still not quite decided but I'm thinking that a few of these blocks would make a cute Christmas table runner. Maybe I'll add that to my 'to do' list too.

I used this tutorial here.

Fingerless Mitts

This was a super quick and easy project. No pattern required and great for using up some leftover yarn that I had lying around. The mitts are worked in rows of Half Double Crochet and sewn up the side. I added the band of grey at the top when I ran out of blue yarn and they weren't quite long enough.

Riley loves them. Don't they look cute with his little fingers peeking out?

Christmas Is Coming ....

I know some of you are probably thinking 'What? How can you be thinking about Christmas already?!'

To be honest I've been thinking about it pretty much since last Christmas and if your Christmas 'to do' list looks anything like mine then it's never too early and lets face it Christmas isn't really that far away.

Crochet snowflake - tutorial here.
I've been gathering a lot of inspiration from Pinterest and I'm determined not to leave everything until the last minute. Last year I took part in the Christmas Challenge which really helped to motivate me so I'm hoping to do something like that again this year.

Have you started thinking about Christmas yet?
You can find my Christmas board here.

Double Loop Crochet Infinity Scarf/Cowl Pattern

We're still getting the occasional cold and frosty morning and my current scarf just isn't cutting it. I've always loved the look of infinity scarfs/cowls so I couldn't wait to whip out my crochet hook and have a go at making one. I'm still fairly new to crocheting so I wanted to keep it simple.

This pattern would be great for beginners. I crochet quite tightly but if you crochet loosely start by chaining 100 and then add more from there if needed, to get the length you want (wrap it around your neck twice to check). Yarn and hook choice will also affect how many chains you'll need (I used a nice chunky yarn and hook size to match).

Here is how I made it:

Yarn: 2 100g balls of Moda Vera Shiver
Hook: 10mm
The first ch 2 of each round counts as first dc.

Row 1: Ch 150, join with slip stitch. Try not to twist your chain.
Row 2: Ch 2, dc in each chain around (150). Slip stitch to join.
Row 3-8: Repeat row 2. Fasten off and weave in ends.

I love it! It's really snuggly and warm and I can't wait to wear it on our next frosty morning walk to Kindy.

If you make a Double Loop Crochet Infinity Scarf/Cowl using this pattern, I'd love for you to share some photos in the Monkey Makes Three Flickr group or leave me a link in the comments.

Cake and Presents!

It was my sister's birthday a couple of weeks ago and to celebrate we had dinner at my mum's house.

Phil made the cake ....

And here is what I made for my sister ....

A fabric book bag and a matching zip pouch. I put a notebook inside the book bag (luckily I found one that was the perfect fit) and it has a ribbon bookmark sewn into it which I added a little charm to. The pattern is from issue nine of Mollie Makes.

I used these instructions here for making the pouch.

Add a block of chocolate and it's perfect!

Yarn Along

Joining in with the Yarn Along for the first time ....

I'm currently working on a granny square blanket and reading The Elves of Cintra by Terry Brooks. I'm a big fan of Terry Brooks and I have read most of his books at one time or another. The Elves of Cintra is book 2 in the Genesis of Shannara trilogy which (if you're familiar with the books) comes after the Word & Void series and before the original Shannara novels (even though it was written after them. You can find out more here).

My blanket is coming along slowly. It's nice to have a project that I can just pick up and work on if/when I have a few spare minutes to myself during the day and it's perfect for snuggling up on the couch with to watch the Olympics in the evenings - GO NEW ZEALAND!
